We believe in fairness, affordability, and honouring every performer who steps into the spotlight. Whether you're a soloist, part of a duo, trio, or a group, MTSA offers a professional yet welcoming environment for both novice and experienced competitors, open to schools and individual entries.

THE CATEGORIES

THE MT CATEGORIES EXPLAINED

  • Modern Jazz  - Solo - Duo - Trio - Groups

  • Commercial - Solo - Duo - Trio - Groups

  • Tap Dance - Solo - Duo - Trio - Groups

  • Lyrica/Contemporary  - Solo - Duo - Trio - Groups

  • Vocals - Solo - Duo - Groups

  • Song and Dance - Solo - Duo - Trio - Groups

  • Musical Theatre - Solo - Duo - Trio - Groups

  • Open - Solo - Duo - Trio - Groups (Open can be anything from Acro, commercial to street dancing)

In the Musical Theatre category, we’re looking for a seamless blend of acting and singing, where the performance naturally transitions from spoken dialogue into song. The storytelling should be expressive, and engaging, and capture the essence of musical theatre, bringing characters and emotions to life on stage.

In the Vocal category, we are looking for pure, powerful vocals without any dance elements. The focus is entirely on vocal technique, expression, and the ability to connect with the audience through song.

In the Song and Dance category, we are looking for a perfect balance of both singing and dancing, with each element making up 50% of the performance. The vocals should be strong and expressive, while the choreography complements the storytelling, creating a seamless and engaging performance that truly represents both genre

ROUTINE LENGTHS

  • Solo - 2 minutes 

  • Duo - 3 minutes 

  • Group - 5 minutes 

  • Musical Theatre - solo 3 minutes - Duo 4 minutes - Group 5 minutes

  • Extra time can be added at a cost of £1.00 

AGES

  • Performance – 30 points
  • Technique – 25 points

  • Musicality – 25 points

  • Memory – 10 points

  • Trueness to Genre – 10 points

SCORING 

  • Juniors - 5-7 years 

  • Inters - 8-11 years 

  • Senior Prep - 12-14

  • Senior - 15-18

  • Advanced Senior - 19-25

COSTINGS:

Early bird fees up till October 1st

  • Solo - £27.50 pp includes workshop 

  • Duo - £12.50 pp 

  • Trio - £12.50 pp

  • Group - £11.00 pp

  • Extra music time - £1.00 per routine not pp

  • Spectator tickets from £9.00

  • Teachers - x3 comp tickets

THE DAY: 
A live running order will be available for teachers and competitors to know which number we are on. Runners will be side of the stage and in the dressing rooms to help with transitions to and from the stage. Please. note this is a rough idea of the schedule, and there will be opportunities for everyone to attend workshops throughout the day.

4.30 pm - 4.45 pm - Break 
4.45-6.45 pm - Inters/Seniors/ Adv Seniors 2nd Set competitors 
6.45 - 7.00 pm Break 
7.00-7.30 pm Seniors/ Adv Seniors 2nd Set competitors
7.30-8.00 pm Results 
8.30 pm Finish

HOW TO ENTER

You can enter as an individual performer or as part of a dance or stage school. Whether you're showcasing your talent solo or performing with a group, MTSA welcomes all passionate dancers and musical theatre performers to take the stage!
